How many bases make sense on a first Malaysia trip?
For many one- to two-week trips, two to four bases create enough contrast without turning every other day into a transfer. The right number depends on arrival city, flight or rail times and whether East Malaysia is included.
Which bases work best without a car?
KLCC–Bukit Bintang near useful rail, and the George Town heritage core, are strong starting points. Melaka’s core is walkable, but the bus terminal and outer attractions still need transport. Every exact accommodation should be checked against the desired station or sights.
